On November 5, the Greek Parliament approved the first comprehensive law on cryptocurrency taxation.
Key provisions:
– A 10% tax rate on capital gains from cryptocurrencies, down from the 15% discussed in June.
– Income of up to €500 per year is tax-exempt.
– Income from staking, crypto lending, and providing liquidity in DeFi is subject to a separate 15% tax as interest income.
– The tax takes effect on January 1, 2027.
A 12-month period without fines or penalties is provided for declaring past income. The Ministry of Finance said that exchanging one cryptocurrency for another does not trigger a tax liability.
