Key changes:

  • Transaction confirmations will be three times faster. The expected time for three confirmations will drop from nearly 4 minutes to 75 seconds.
  • Private payment throughput could more than double, from 3 to over 6 transactions per second.
  • Wallet load will decrease. The maximum daily volume of data to scan for private payments will drop from 271 to 169 MB.
  • Fee distribution will change. Miners will receive 40%, while the remaining 60% will go to a reserve for future rewards, starting around February 2031.
  • Sprout—the original Zcash private transaction mechanism, launched in 2016—has been disabled. As a result, around 12 224 ZEC have become unavailable for transfer.

The upgrade activated at block 3 543 405. Actual block times are still above the 25-second target as mining difficulty continues to adjust.
