A proposal (PIP) to hard fork the Polygon PoS mainnet has been published on the Polygon forum. It would return about 70.49 million POL to Polymarket and Binance, which remained in attackers’ addresses after two recent hacks. At the October 29 price of $0.0924 per POL, that amounts to about $6.5 million. Polymarket has approximately 23.86 million POL across four addresses, while Binance has about 46.63 million POL at one address.

These funds cannot currently be withdrawn. According to the proposal, block producers added the addresses to a blocklist and do not include their transactions in blocks. In the hard fork, the balances of these addresses would be set to zero, and the same amounts credited to recovery addresses designated by Polymarket and Binance. The total POL supply would remain unchanged.

The proposal will be discussed on a Polygon call on November 5 at 14:30 UTC. If approved, client development and testnet testing will take about two weeks. The proposal does not specify a voting threshold, and the fork’s name and activation block number have yet to be determined.
