Starknet (STRK) has launched a vote on moving the network from an Ethereum-based L2 to an independent L1 that will be resistant to quantum computer attacks.

The main reason is security. Starknet already uses STARK cryptographic proofs and supports implementing quantum-resistant signatures without a protocol upgrade. However, the security of bridges and data availability still depend on Ethereum. A transition to its own L1 would eliminate this dependency.

The vote will last seven days and is advisory. If the initiative is supported, the team will begin research and prepare detailed proposals. The timeline for a possible transition has not yet been determined.

The STRK token will remain, and no new token is planned. Bridges between Ethereum and Starknet will continue to operate.
