The U.S. Prosecutor's Office is investigating possible Binance violations of sanctions against Iran.

According to Bloomberg, Manhattan’s federal prosecutor’s office is investigating whether Binance knowingly facilitated transactions in violation of sanctions against Iran. The investigation is focused on the exchange’s compliance systems and whether it was aware of these transactions.

This is already the second major conflict between Binance and U.S. authorities. In 2023, the exchange pleaded guilty to charges of violating anti-money-laundering regulations, operating without a license, and breaching sanctions, and paid a fine of approximately $4.3 billion.

Earlier, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the Iranian exchange BitBank, which, according to the agency, was used to process payments for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
