Citigroup plans to launch a digital asset custody service by the end of 2026, starting with BTC. The service will be part of a new platform called Custody+, which will integrate the bank’s traditional and cryptocurrency custody services.
Citi first announced its plans to launch its own cryptocurrency custody service back in 2025. Now, the bank has confirmed the timeline and clarified that BTC will be the first supported asset.
Custody+ is designed for markets with round-the-clock trading and fast settlement. In addition to cryptocurrency custody, the platform will support real-time settlements, liquidity management tools, and AI-powered analytics.
Citi is also simultaneously developing infrastructure for tokenized deposits. The bank is participating in a Swift pilot for round-the-clock cross-border payments and, together with other major U.S. banks, is working on The Clearing House’s tokenized deposit network, which is expected to launch in the first half of 2027.
Citi (Citigroup) is one of the largest U.S. banking conglomerates. The bank serves private and corporate clients, large corporations, funds, and government organizations, providing banking, investment, payment, and custody services.
