Netflix has announced the release date for the series “The Altruists” (the working title in Russian has not yet been determined), based on the story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison. The premiere is scheduled for November 19.

The plot revolves around two young idealists who tried to reform the global financial system and ended up being accused of stealing $8 billion. At the height of his wealth, Bankman-Fried ranked 41st on Forbes’ list of America’s richest people, made it onto Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list, and later was even named to the publication’s “Hall of Shame.” FTX went bankrupt in November 2022 after evidence of fraud came to light; Bankman-Fried was arrested in December of the same year. Ellison headed Alameda Research, a trading firm affiliated with FTX, and later testified against her former partner in court.

The lead roles are played by Julia Garner (Ellison) and Anthony Boyle (Bankman-Fried). The cast also includes Alex Lawther, Karan Soni, Naomi Okada, Madison Hu, Matt Rife, and Eugene Young. The series consists of eight episodes in total.

The script is partly based on articles from New York Magazine.
