Senate Republicans will head into the August recess without voting on the CLARITY Actâlegislation review is being postponed until at least September, Politico reports. Senate Majority Leader John Thune confirmed that the chamber is âdelayingâ the vote.
The reason is insufficient support from Democrats, which is necessary to advance the bill. Negotiations are ongoing. Thune could seek cloture before the recessâa procedural move that would allow the vote to be scheduled for when senators return in mid-September; however, the actual vote on the bill would still not take place.
Democrats refused to approve a time agreement that would have accelerated remaining business before the recess and brought the crypto legislation to a vote. To wrap up work without dragging the session into next week, Republicans would need unanimous consent from all 100 senators.
