Binance failed to obtain a license under the European MiCA regulation by the June 30 deadline and will be forced to discontinue serving EU customers. Attempts to secure a license in Greece, Ireland, and Latvia have all fallen through—regulators in these three countries coordinated their positions and rejected the exchange due to past money-laundering fines, a complex corporate structure, and the influence of founder CZ.
Jillian Lynch, head of Binance’s European division, told Reuters that Binance is not leaving Europe and is exploring alternative pathways to obtain authorization. However, ESMA has already demanded that unlicensed companies “immediately begin orderly winding down their operations in the EU.”
