🗣️AXIOS: The U.S. and Iran have reached an agreement, but it must be approved by Trump.

  • Negotiators have agreed on a 60-day truce memorandum. But:
    • Final approval from Trump is required, and he has asked for a few days to consider the final deal.
    • The top leadership in Iran has not yet approved it.
  • If the document is signed, the agreement will extend the ceasefire and launch negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
  • The memorandum must stipulate that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will be “unrestricted”: no fees, no pressure on ships, and demining of the strait within 30 days.
  • The U.S. naval blockade must also be lifted, but gradually—as commercial shipping resumes.
  • In the nuclear part, Iran must commit not to pursue the development of nuclear weapons. The initial topics of negotiation will be what to do with highly enriched uranium and how to address the issue of uranium enrichment.
  • The U.S. is ready to discuss easing sanctions, unfreezing Iranian assets, as well as mechanisms for supplying goods and humanitarian aid.
