
Zcash has launched the first test of the NU7 upgrade. The main change is that the network will become significantly faster: block creation time will be reduced from 75 to 25 seconds, and transactions will be confirmed roughly three times faster.
Also, the developers:
- have doubled the network’s throughput;
- have reduced the effectiveness of certain types of spam attacks by 40%;
- have improved the mining mechanism for a more stable network;
- have added a mechanism for accumulating part of the transaction fees to support miners after future halvings.
The team has so far refrained from some controversial changes that could have caused issues with wallets and infrastructure.
The testnet will run for two weeks. After that, the developers will release a more refined version.
